H-Town Racing to Begin Season Saturday Night at The Bullring
(March 26, 2008 – Henderson,
Nev.) The Nevada State
Bank Racing – Findlay Chevrolet powered race team is going to kick off the 2008 season this Saturday night at Las Vegas
Motor Speedways’ The Bullring. Fielding at least three cars, and possibly
up to five.
It was a very busy off
season for the team. After not competing at the level expected, H-Town Racing
decided it was time to go back to the drawing board. First building a new Super
Late Model for driver Jim Petrie. Starting with a new Howe chassis the team started
from the ground up, working day and night to prepare the car. Driver Jim Petrie
said, “The crew at H-Town Racing did a wonderful job. They have really
given this project all they had. I am really looking forward to finally getting
this car out there.”
They didn’t stop
there. After the completion of the Super Late model it was on to the NASCAR Modified
for driver Pat Petrie. Pat had a very solid performance at the Fall Classic,
qualifying twelfth, before a crash on lap 18 ended his night early. The team
decided instead of rebuilding a car that needed a tremendous amount of work, to build a new one. Starting with an older chassis, the crew cut and chopped and morphed it into a new chassis designed by
crew chief Joe Petrie.
At the same time H-Town
driver Ben Morris was completing the assembly of his new Chuck Wahl modified, driver Jeff Bargerhuff was preparing for his
jump to the Late Model division, and driver John Wright was revamping his Charger Division Camaro.
With the season opener
in just a couple of days the team is working around the clock to finish everything.
“We still have to complete the Charger car and the Chuck Wahl modified, and the crew is working non-stop to get
these cars to the track Saturday,” said crew chief Joe Petrie.
H-Town Racing would like
to thank American Racing Supply for all of the support during the off-season. “When
we needed something they had it or got it for us right away. They were instrumental
in us being able to get all of this done,” said Jim Petrie.
The team would also like
to thank the 2008 sponsors: Nevada State Bank, Findlay Chevrolet, Las Vegas Orthopedics – Dr. Mary Ann Shannon, SFC
USA Inc., Cintas, Black Mountain Graphics, and Parson’s Custom Auto Body.

NASCAR Angels and
Goodyear Gemini Present Unprecedented Gift to Teachers, Staff at Dr. C. Owen Roundy Elementary School
LAS VEGAS, NV (February
20, 2008) – NASCAR
Angels, a weekly reality-based TV show that focuses on how the
racing and automotive care communities can help deserving individuals in need of a transportation fix, along with its presenting
sponsor partner Goodyear Gemini, will feature an unprecedented gift of new tires, oil changes and fluid checks to 65 teachers
and staff members’ vehicles of Dr. C. Owen Roundy Elementary School in an upcoming episode. The “spring car care”
day-long repair fest will be filmed on Sun., Feb. 24 at Scher’s Tires, 9555 West Tropicana Boulevard in Las Vegas. The
episode is scheduled to air mid-April to 88% of the county in more than 200 television markets.
Roundy Elementary was chosen to be featured in
the episode because of its year-long racing theme, “On the Road to Success,” carried throughout the school’s
programs. A year-round school, Roundy has 700 students; a 90% Hispanic population with a 100% free lunch program.
“Goodyear Gemini is very honored to recognize
the outstanding efforts of educators and staff through this gift of new tires and vehicle servicing,” states Mark Boswell,
Gemini program manager. “Our society owes a great debt of gratitude to
the men and women who embrace our children across America every day. We are proud that an episode of NASCAR Angels will spotlight educators in this manner, and that we have this opportunity to show our appreciation
for their commitment and dedication.”
An integral part of Roundy’s school-wide
racing theme is a fifth-grade “Race to Success” reading program launched at Roundy and Sewell Elementary last
September by H-Town Racing, a Nevada State Bank Race Team that competes primarily at the Las Vegas
Motor Speedway on the “Bullring” short track. The program, which will be highlighted in the episode of
NASCAR Angels, focuses on mentoring and teaching students how to set and achieve
goals, with an emphasis on enhancing their reading skills. This program will culminate at the “Race to Success Reading
Program Night” at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on May 10.
Henderson’s Jim Petrie, reading program
coordinator, drives a Whelen Series Super Late Model which competes in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. He will spend
150+ hours at the two elementary schools this year, visiting fifth grade classes to mentor and read to students, and to present
prizes earned by the students. Racing is the focus that keeps the students interested and working toward their goals. They
earn individual prizes, including tickets donated by LVMS, while also earning class prizes. At the conclusion of the program,
H-Town Racing will make a $500 donation to each school.
“It is a very big honor for us to be included
in the filming of NASCAR Angels,” Petrie stated. “The students at Roundy
Elementary have earned this national recognition by their hard work and dedication to the program, and have done a wonderful
job achieving their reading goals. I look forward to the monthly visits and interacting
with the students, because I can see how much they have grown as students, making it even more special to our race team.”
