H-Town Racing kicked
off the H-Town Racing Race to Success Reading Program in September of 2007 at Roundy Elementary and Sewell Elementary,
the program ends with the Race to Success Reading Program Night at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, on May 10, 2007.
The program focuses
on mentoring and teaching students how to set and achieve goals, with an emphasis on enhancing their reading skills. Jim Petrie, who will spend 150 plus hours at the schools through his monthly schedule,
visits each 5th grade class to mentor and read to the students, and hand out the prizes earned by the students. Racing is the focus that keeps the kids interested and working towards their goals. The students earn individual prizes, including tickets donated by LVMS, while also
earning class prizes. At the conclusion of the program H-Town Racing will make
a $500.00 donation to each school.
"We are pleased to announce that we are expanding the program for the 2007-2008 school year. Smalley Elementary
is included in the expansion. We look forward to partnering with them to help these wonderful kids suceed on there way
to middle school. Along, with Smalley, we hope to add another five schools by June. We are really excited about
the success and results of this program, and look forward to bringing to eight schools next year," Jim Petrie
